LIFT. An introduction to a concept.

I’ve been rolling around ideas for awhile. That’s nothing new for me, but this one is big. Like, I want to change the world, big. I love people. And I want other people to love people. At the very least, I want to see compassion and understanding between people who are very different from one another. I don’t think people should necessarily change their mind about their own beliefs, I like opinionated people, but I do want to see some informed compassion.

This got me thinking … HOW in the world do I do that? Well, I’m starting with people I know I can talk to about anything. I have a way.. a way of asking tough questions without giving away my opinion on them. I do that so people will be honest with me. I believe that if I don’t have information from people different than me, I can’t have an informed opinion. Opinion, yes. Informed opinion, impossible. So, I’ve started this thing called LIFT. It has different channels.. blog, podcast, discussion groups, field trips… but the one consistent thread in every space, on every channel? It’s REAL. It’s authentic and raw and honest, and the adventures are between real people. In person.

First up?

WHIP, Women’s Huddle for an Informed Public, is a small discussion group of diverse women with very different opinions who discuss issues that have been over-politicized to the point that civil public discourse is impossible. We discuss sourced facts only. No opinions allowed. The goal is to better understand those we disagree with.

Up next… I, a woman raised Catholic and now, just Christian, will visit a mosque and synagogue. To start.. I’ll let you know how it goes…
